"Because the final gift we can give them is the same gift they gave us every day of their lives: love without fear, and peace without pain."  —Dr. Aubrey

Our Process

We understand that knowing what to expect helps alleviate fear of the unknown, allowing you to focus fully on your beloved pet. We gently guide you through every step of this peaceful goodbye, honoring your pet’s pace within the comfort of your own home.

  • Submission of the "Contact Us" Form: This gives us the information about you and your pet that we need to start the scheduling process, as well as answer any questions you may initially have.

  • Initial Contact: During this conversation, we will discuss your pet and their needs, as well as any special requests or questions you may have. We make every effort to schedule a date and time that works best for you and your family. We will give you a 1-hour arrival window on the date you choose, and we respectfully ask that all family members are present and ready during this time-frame. We ask this to insure we are able to give your pet and family all the time you deserve, while still allowing us to arrive on time for the next family we will see.

  • Day-of Contact: We will contact you when we are on our way, giving you an estimated time of arrival. If you haven't signed the Consent Form yet, we will send you a link to do so.

  • Arrival and gentle preparation: Dr. Aubrey will quietly enter your home and take time to sit with you, listen to your concerns, answer any questions, and guide you through what to expect. We will complete the Consent Form, confirm aftercare wishes, and finalize any remaining details at a pace that feels comfortable for you. In some cases, a trained assistant may accompany Dr. Aubrey to help ensure everything proceeds smoothly and respectfully.

  • Comfort‑focused sedation: Your pet will receive a "Cloud-9 Cocktail": a careful selection of sedatives, pain relief, and anesthetic medications to help them relax deeply and drift into a peaceful sleep. These medications are tailored to your pet, taking any existing health conditions into consideration. These medications may be given orally, under the skin, or into a muscle. Occasionally, as with any injection, there may be a brief moment of awareness, but this passes quickly. Within minutes, you will see their body soften as tension and discomfort fade away. They will become fully unconscious and unaware of their surroundings. You are welcome to remain with them, hold them, speak to them, and love them throughout this time.

  • Peaceful passing: Once your pet is fully asleep and comfortable, it is normal for their eyes to not completely close. We will place an absorbent pad under your pet, because when they relax, all body systems relax and they may pass urine or stool. When you are ready to proceed, the final medication is administered into a blood vessel. This is a gentle overdose of an anesthetic that allows for a peaceful and painless passing. They will not feel fear, discomfort, or distress. Their awareness fades first, followed by breathing and then their heart. Dr. Aubrey will be carefully monitoring, and will let you know when your angel is at peace. Occasionally, small reflex movements may occur after passing—these are natural and do not indicate pain or awareness.

  • Memorial Keepsakes: All peaceful passings, regardless of aftercare choice, will receive a paw print/picture frame combination, and a lock of fur in a small keepsake display. These are typically done after your pet's peaceful passing, so that you and your pet have undisturbed time together.

  • Private time and respectful care: After your pet has passed, you will be given as much private time as you need to say goodbye. When you are ready, we will gently wrap them in a soft blanket and prepare them with dignity and care. If we are helping with aftercare, we will carefully transport them on a soft stretcher or in a small basket. We encourage family members to assist carrying their beloved friend to Dr. Aubrey's vehicle if they wish.

  • Aftercare options tailored to your wishes: You may choose the aftercare option that feels most meaningful to you and your family. Options include home burial (where permitted), communal cremation, or private cremation with the return of your pet’s ashes. We will help guide you through these choices with compassion and clarity.

  • Transportation and coordination: If you choose for us to handle your pet's aftercare, Beloved Bond will handle all transportation and coordination with our trusted cremation partner, Precious Pets Cremation Services, ensuring your pet is cared for respectfully every step of the way.

  • Family members are free to step away at ANY point in the process. We understand that every person grieves differently. Some family members wish to be present for some parts of the process, and some wish to be present for the entire process. This is a very personal decision, and sometimes you will not know what you wish to do until you are in the moment. There is never, a wrong choice. Just know that whatever you wish to do, Dr. Aubrey will be ever present to guide you and your beloved pet.
